Build an upright frame of gold blocks, the way you would build a Nether portal, and use an End Crystal on it. The crystal is used up and the frame fills with the moving surface of the Astral Sea itself: the same glowing water that lies beneath the floating islands, now standing upright between the gold.
Step in and wait a moment, and the portal carries you to an island of the Astral Sea. Break the frame and the surface disappears.
Rules
- The inside of the frame can be from 2 × 3 up to 21 × 21 blocks; the corners are optional.
- Light it by using an End Crystal on the frame. A valid frame uses the crystal up.
Exceptions
- An incomplete or invalid frame does not light, and the crystal is not used.
- The portal works in both directions of a frame (north–south and east–west).
Examples
- In 0.1.0-pre-alpha there is no portal yet; there you enter the dimension with /astralsea tp in a world with cheats enabled.
Questions about the Portal to the Astral Sea
- How do you build the portal to the Astral Sea?
- Build an upright frame of gold blocks with an inside of 2 × 3 up to 21 × 21 blocks and use an End Crystal on it. The portal is a prototype in development and not part of 0.1.0-pre-alpha; there, /astralsea tp (with cheats on) takes you in.
- Is the End Crystal used up?
- Yes, a valid frame uses the crystal up. An incomplete or invalid frame does not light and keeps the crystal.
