You usually hear a herd before you see it, a low rumble of hooves crossing the golden plateaus. One bison leads, the others follow at their own pace. When the leader settles down for a rest, the whole herd drifts to a halt around it, grazes the highland grass down to bare earth and moves on once the leader rises again.

A bison has no quarrel with you, and it will graze right next to you. Strike one, though, and the herd answers as one: every adult within 16 blocks turns on you. Watch the horns. When a bison lowers its head and they flare with light, an Astral Charge is coming, and the only good answer is a quick step to the side.

Their meat carries a trace of the dimension. Whether you eat it raw or cooked, it leaves you briefly translucent and out of reach of the world, a state known as Astral Phasing.
