A Sanctum Guard keeps you at spear's length and shows you its shield, which turns most blows from the front. It lowers the shield to attack: a straight thrust that reaches a few blocks, a quick bash up close and a sweep in a narrow arc.

Its weakness is its own reach. If a thrust or sweep misses and the spear sticks in a wall or the floor, the guard is stuck for two seconds with its shield down and takes extra damage. Guards fight as a team: when two are together, one covers while the other attacks.
