When the corruption reaches a Lost Spirit, a Wandering Spirit or a Charred Soul, it turns into one of these. In the Hollow Sanctum they appear as Corrupted Souls in the rooms. A Corrupted Spirit closes in, winds up where you can see it and strikes, and its hit throws you 20 to 50 blocks away on the same island.

A Soul Anchor stops the teleport, but not the damage. In the Sanctum their souls fill the Soul Catchers, and the dungeon only opens further once those are full.
